It’s an apt song choice, because the make-up legend – that’s no exaggeration, she’s been in the business for more than 40 years – is here for a special masterclass event, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her eponymous brand and demonstrate what she calls the ‘uptown-girl look’.

Natural ingredients are set to be one of the driving forces in the ever-evolving beauty industry next year.

According to new research by the leading market intelligence agency Mintel, natural beauty products are set to become a major trend in 2018, with brands capitalizing on the movement by encompassing local approaches and developments in biotechnology with a more organic approach to ingredients.

“With evolving consumer demands and climatic changes around the world, the beauty and personal care industry’s approach to natural and sustainable ingredients must adapt,” said Vivienne Rudd, director of Global Innovation and Insight, Beauty & Personal Care at Mintel, in a press statement. “In the coming year, the possibilities for creating safe, allergen-free, pure, and efficacious ingredients through science could replace the harvesting of natural ingredients.”

Beauty products are one of the hot spots in retail, as it’s one of the few categories where millennials want to spend their money. The makeup category has grown by double-digits in December for the last two years, according to market researcher NPD Group.

Particularly popular during holidays is sparkly makeup and sets of mini products. Sales of mini or travel-size prestige makeup products grew by 58 percent through September 2017, according to NPD.

Within skincare, a string of themes can be found. First, brands are looking to be more personalized, no longer focusing on ads and products centered on supermodel faces. They are also increasingly focused on “free-from” and natural products.
